Week 8 Thing 19

Explored a couple of sites on the Web 2.0 Awards List. One sentence was interesting. Checked out some of the games and city guides (yelp). Some of these sites would be helpful for giving information to patrons (not the games or one sentence, but perhaps the yelp or medstory).

Week 8 Thing 18

Explored Google Docs, create a document and emailed it someone. Wow. This is very handy. I like that I can save it online and then access it from anywhere. Also, that it is so easy to email or share in other ways with people (posting to the blog, making a webpage etc.) I'm impressed.

Week 7 Thing 17

Explored Maryland Libraries Sandbox, created a log in account and added my blog to the favorite blogs page. While I think that wikis can definitely be useful, I'm not sure of the value of this one. I guess it's just sort of for looking around at different blogs and reading random comments from people.

Week 7 Thing 16

Wikis can certainly be a useful tool for libraries -as CCPL has already found out. I like the idea of adding wiki functionality to the catalog so that patrons could give reviews and synopses about books they've read. Also, the idea of a community wiki, where patrons could post information that would be helpful to others in the community sounds great. I looked at several wikis and really liked the book lovers wiki - I love reading others' reviews of books and getting ideas of books I might enjoy.

Week 6 Thing 15

I read several of the perspectives on the notion of Library 2.o and found Dr. Wendy Schultz's "To a temporary place in time" interesting. I liked the way she showed how the library can evolve with new technologies. Looking back at what libraries used to and forward to a vision of what they can become was eye-opening and thought-provoking.

Week 6 Thing 14

Explored Technorati. I guess some people find this interesting. Or helpful.

Week 6 Thing 13

Spent some time exploring del.icio.us - watched the tutorial, read us.ef.ul and several habits of . . . and looked at the del.icio.us. Looks very useful for research. I believe you could get lost for days looking at all the related tags, tags of people who have tags related to your tags, etc!

Week 5 Thing 12

Checked out Rollyo - the quick quote one seemed like it could be helpful. The free photo one mostly just went to Flickr, which I could do on my own. Created a recipe search - http://rollyo.com/libblopi/lotsa_recipes/. I can see where this might be a helpful tool - searching just sites you trust instead of the whole web. However, I find that the Research Resources on our library home page pretty much take care of that for me.

Week 5 Thing 11

Looked around LibraryThing and found it very interesting and useful. I actually know someone who has a large personal libary and asked me about cataloging it - now I can suggest that she check out this site. Quickly made my own library http://www.librarything.com/catalog/libblopi but plan to add more to it and use it to find suggestions of books I might like to read.

Week 5 Thing 10 Part 2

Yahoo! AvatarsHa! Got my avatar on my blog.

Week 5 Thing 10

Played with generators and managed to upload this image after failing with several others. Found LetterJames frustrating - no instructions on what's available or how to use it - I need that! This came from generator blog. http://yourgen.com/handwriting/sketch
